Detail About This Listing
On the evening of Monday Nov. 24 one young Chinese woman rescued a dog from People’s Square. Through internet she found “21 pet”. Supposedly, “21 pet” provides foster care and adoption services for rescued animals, so the young woman trusted them and left her rescued dog with them (虹口区华昌路9号金象大厦601室). However, later on she found out (through an online group) information indicating that “21 pet” has a history of more than 10 years committing fraud: getting money from rescuers, promising that they will care for the rescued pets. This “business” seems to kill, neglect or sell rescued pets, and to have a puppy mill too.
The young woman got scared and the following day she asked to “21 pet” about her rescued dog, receiving the appalling news that her dog was dead. The young woman asked help from an experienced animal rescuer, who accompanied her to “21 pet” and both saw the dead rescued dog. Without being able to give a proper explanation on what happened, the head of “21 pet” (Mr. Yan Sun/孙炎 , who normally gives the false name "Huang") got angry, threaten, hit and injured the 2 women. The young woman had to go to the hospital, while the experienced rescuer and Mr. Yan Sun went to the police station. Mr. Yan Sun was detained until the following day.
The news broke out online and several rescuers showed up that same day outside the apartment of “21 pet”, waiting to rescue the many animals still inside. Please notice that this apartment is residential and no business can be conducted there. Furthermore, "only one dog per household" is allowed according to Shanghai Law, yet inside there were many animals crying. The volunteers waited until the door was finally opened, just to find out a horrific scene, foul smell and 80 puppies cramped in dirty cages (plus 2 kittens and 2 adult dogs). All these animals were desperate, starving and sick.
The volunteers took all the cages out. The puppies are aged between 2 weeks old up to 2 months old. The police arrived and an agreement was reached between the police chief and the volunteers, so that all the rescued animals could be taken “under custody” as “evidence” to a safe location.
